Isopanishad Mantra Nine

- Eating sleeping mating defending only as human - that is avidya - is that all we can do? No, hence vidya - the knowledge that we are not this body, we are spirit soul, we are part and parcel of Krishna.
- Our education system today is so stressful as it is on material knowledge in 3 parts.
- 3 Parts of 5 from BG (Who am I, who is god , what is material nature, what is karma and what is time).
- The current material education does not teach us anything about the Supreme Lord, it does not teach us about the spiritual world, it does not teach us about our relationship with the Supreme Lord. Therefore it is not complete as it is avidya.
- Such avidya will bringforth more and more isms - communism, capitalism, socialism, etc. which are all based on the bodily concept of life.
- Women rights, Men rights, this and that rights, etc. are all based on the bodily concept of life and avidya.
- The society is so much engrossed in avidya that it is not able to see the reality. Therefore no one knows how to live a simple life or how to be happy.
- Think of past life where people will be born live and die in their own village, and they will be happy. Now we are so much engrossed in avidya that we are not able to see the reality.
- Long weekend -> Where to travel? -> What to do? -> How to spend time? -> How to be happy? -> All these questions are because of avidya.
- On top of that, people used to live in a harmonious way as a big family. Then came nuclear family.
- Now it is even worse - just individuals living by themselves, not even as a family.
- Every country has its own self-interest, same with each individual.
- However, in Vaishnava culture, we are taught to live in harmony with each other, with the nature, and with the Supreme Lord - Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - the whole world is one family.
- Isavashyaṁ idam sarvam - everything belongs and is controlled by the Supreme Lord, and we are all part and parcel of the Supreme Lord.
Key
- isavasyam idam sarvam - everything belongs to the Supreme Lord.
- vasudhaiva kutumbakam - the whole world is one family.

- BG 7.15
- In current times what is leading people to avidya - ignorance?
- It is not over untill it is over - this is how we should live our life - one life for Krishna and prabhupada.
- Education is so powerful that it can attract one into maya and it leads to avidya. However, one should not stop education, but one should understand the purpose of education with the help of the scriptures and acharyas.
- A pig in a gutter or dirt is not happy, but it is in ignorance that it thinks it is happy.
- Vidyaya-ratah thus means those engaged in the study of the vedas.
- Prabhupada: Highlighted that we read from a bonafide source, and not from a bogus source.
- Prabhupada: We should not read the vedas with a materialistic view, but with a spiritual view.
- Prabhupada: The vedas are meant to lead us to the Supreme Lord.
- SB 1.2.6 savai pumsaṁ paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhokṣaje
- Bhakti should be the goal of all vedic knowledge and it should be conducted with pure love.
- Krishna is telling us that he will preserve what we have and give us what we lack.

Translation
Those who engage in the culture of nescient activities shall enter into the darkest region of ignorance.
Worse still are those engaged in the culture of so-called knowledge.
Purport Summary
Comparative Analysis of Avidyā and Vidyā
- Avidyā (ignorance) is harmful, but misguided vidyā (so-called knowledge) is even more dangerous.
- Modern civilization stresses material education while neglecting the spiritual purpose of life, leading to greater unhappiness and ignorance.
Sense Gratification in Modern Life
- 99.9% of people pursue sense enjoyment through industrialism, politics, and economics — activities rooted in ignorance.
- Such pursuits are labeled as worship of avidyā, and they alienate one from God consciousness.
Danger of Godless Education
- Education that does not lead to self-realization is considered nescience.
- Godless learning is compared to:
- A jewel on a cobra — it becomes more dangerous.
- Decorations on a dead body — it masks the reality of spiritual death.
True Purpose of the Vedas
- The Vedas are meant to revive our lost relationship with the Supreme Lord.
- The veda-vāda-rata — those engrossed in fruitive Vedic interpretations — are condemned for:
- Ignoring the purpose of the Vedas.
- Misguiding others with speculative meanings.
- Rejecting the authority of bona fide ācāryas.
- Real understanding comes only through disciplic succession.
Misguided Intellectualism (Māyayāpahṛta-jñāna)
- Some falsely claim to be God themselves, refusing to worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
- They fail to understand:
- God cannot be overpowered by His own energy (māyā).
- If He were, He wouldn't be all-powerful.
- These self-made "Gods" mislead others and fall into the darkest ignorance.
Conclusion
Education that does not awaken God consciousness is nescience and leads to deeper ignorance.
The real goal of knowledge (vidyā) is self-realization and revival of our relationship with the Supreme Lord.
Misinterpretation of spiritual texts and self-centered intellectualism are condemned as worse than ignorance.
